Welcome:  President Jacki Shambaugh opened today’s meeting.  It was announced that the Danvers Rotary has lost a Past President, Bob Tarlin.  Ralph Ardiff recognized Bob for his bicycling days and helping establish the Danvers Rotary Endowment Fund.

Invocation:  I heartwarming invocation was presented by John Somes and received a standing ovation.  Then I realized everyone was still standing from of the pledge of allegiance.

Lunch:  Coffee, sliced steak, veggies, salad, stuffed clam shell, portabella mushrooms and key lime pie.

Rotary Moment:  Beck Kilborn – Received a compliment on the Rotary landscaping.  My moment was the great ketchup they sell at the Farmers Market. Comes highly recommended.  

Visiting Rotarians:  Brian Ahern from Buffalo NY (Soon to be joining our club).  Asst District Governor Kang Yu.


  • Neal Waldman.  The chess tables planned for the library patio are installed and ready for use.  

  • Larry Ramondi – reminded us that the Navy Band will be playing August 16th at the Rotary Pavilion at 6pm.  8 piece band. This event is sponsored by the Danvers Rotary.

  • REMINDER:  BOTTOM’S UP - Larry DeLorenzo will have a Tribute for Jeff DeLorenzo on August 3rd at the Danversport Waterfront Patio with LIVE music featuring “Horizon & The Horns – Ray Novak (6-9 PM) and a DJ (9-11PM).  Cost is $20 – all proceeds going to Boys and Girls Club of Salem. Tickets on sale NOW!!!

  • Dan Dougherty – Wiffle Ball – reminder that we have a tourney on August 11 at Danvers HS.  We need volunteers, Sponsors and Players. Spread the word. This is a BIG Fundraiser for the Club.  

  • June 28th – Concert at the Rotary Pavilion

  • Farmers Market – Matt Schroeder updated us on the success of the market.  Vendors keep coming back. NEW Vendor this week will be selling gourmet dog biscuits.  We have over 20 vendors and more produce should be coming in weeks to come. If you have not visited – make sure you stop by.

GUEST SPEAKER – District Governor Bob Wood 2018/2019

Bob is a Charter Member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Greater Georgetown, MA. Bob has worked at the District level in Rotary as Assistant Treasurer, Governor’s Aide, District Registrar and currently the District Treasurer, Chair of the Homelessness & Hunger Initiative and co-chair of the 2016 District Conference. He also served on the District’s 2015 Rotaplast medical mission to Cebu, Philippines. Bob is a member of the Rotary Club of Peabody, assisting in many capacities. Bob is a Major Donor of the Rotary Foundation, and is a member of the Paul Harris Society.

Today, Bob talked about the district and being involved.  The district is looking for nominations for the Paul Harris Fellow district award.  (Please share nominations with Jacki). Talked about collaborating with other clubs on projects, fundraisers and social gatherings.  Rhotoplast mission to the Philippine’s is coming up. Last year they provided over 113 surgeries in 10 days. Goals this year includes encouraging clubs to perform an needs assessment within the community, increase community involvement and volunteer.  Lastly, to join a District Committee.

Bob asked a question to our members.  Why do you belong to Rotary? Our club had some very positive answers:

  5. Touch peoples lives
